One of the most requested features for Gowalla is that you be able to take photos and display them along with the spot. To an extent, we added that functionality by showing you relevant photos from Flickr when browsing the Gowalla Tools Map. However, today we've decided to go a step further and instead add full photo handling to the Gowalla website!

An example of the Flickr bookmarklet on the London Eye

All you need to do is drag the link below (or right click and "add as a favourite" if using IE8) to your bookmarks bar. Then, when you are on a gowalla.com/spots/xxxxx page, simply click the bookmark to have a box appear underneath the map with a carousel of photos pulled in from Flickr. For every spot, there can be up to 40 images displayed. The first 30 are determined by finding all photos that have been geo-tagged within the radius of the spot and are sorted according to most recent and most popular (so you get a good mix of the best images and the latest ones). The remaining 10 images are found by using the Gowalla machine tag which is in the format gowalla:spot=xxxxx where xxxxx is the spot id.
