The latest updates from your friends

You know the problem with push notifications? They kill your iPhone battery and you can only see one update at a time. That's why we made the Gowalla Tools Check-ins App so that you could keep track of what your friends are up to from your desktop thus leaving your battery nice and full whilst also not missing an update!

The app runs in the dock of your mac (other platforms coming soon - maybe) and will display all of your friends latest check-ins. If you minimise it, then a badge icon will display how many updates have occurred since you last looked. There is also full Growl notification support so you can get a sexy tooltip whenever one of your friends checks-in with Gowalla.

This is definitely a beta release so may be a bit patchy in places. We're planning on expanding our desktop offering significantly in the New Year (including the ability to choose which friends you receive updates from, watching certain spots, and a prettier interface) so any feedback will be gratefully received.

To get started, just download the app from the link below and copy it to your Applications folder. You'll be asked to enter your username when you first load the app (although you can change this at the bottom of the app later) and then you should start receiving updates. If you have Growl installed, then you'll automatically get a notification as new updates come in.
